Dear IT friends,
Enhancing Hong Kong's Competitiveness; Safeguarding Information Freedom
To expedite the backlogged business due to the Budget debate, LegCo has picked up speed and will be holding three members' motion debate this and next week. The motion debates this week are on the issues of June 4 incident, democratic procedure of the 2017 direct election of the Chief Executive, and enhancing Hong Kong's overall competitiveness, respectively. As we can clearly see from recent crises facing our administration's governance, our government can only regain its mandate via universal suffrage, thereby improving our overall competitiveness.
Next week I will move my first motion debate, and it will be on protecting our freedom of information, freedom of the press, and freedom of the Internet, so as to safeguard these pillars of our core values. Clearly, our daily lives have become inseparable with the Internet, and the free flow of information is vital to our economic development, especially for the IT industry, including data center operations. With this motion, I hope to arouse more public awareness on these critical freedoms we may have taken for granted but may be facing serious threats.
Also, I have opened up my YouTube channel, and the latest uploads are my three speeches in LegCo this week. Please watch and I look forward to your feedback.
